All the purANAs speak the greatness of the Lord hari. In order to  bless the devotees, it is popularly said that the Lord took the avatAra on earth as kR^ishNa, pAmDuramga and SrInivAsa of Tirupathi (popularly known as vemkaTAcalam), the most popular pilgrimage center. Lord SrInivAsa’s eminence (mahima) is proclaimed in all the SAstrAs and purANAs.

SrI vEdavyAsa encapsulated, the proclaimed mahima, in another masterpiece, called SrI vEmkaTESa mAhAtmyam  as part of AdityapurANAmtargata prabamdham. The key note of this prabamdham is to expose the intimate relationship between the Bakta and the Lord. It also describes how the Lord blesses and charters the destiny of the Bakta towards eternal bliss, the mOksha.  It emphasizes the fact “that day is a bad day if the Lord’s name is not chanted or His guNa mahima kIrtana is not even once thought of”. 

It consists of five chapters:

• 1st Chapter is onpAdanaKAgra mahimAvarNam,

• 2nd Chapter is onSrInivAsa divya mamgaLa vigraha varNana,

• 3rd Chapteris on avatAra viSEsha of SrInivAsa,

• 4th Chapter is onviSvarUpAdi varNana and

• 5th Chapter is onvaraprasAda varNana of SrInivAsa.

The great sage sUta maharshi described the mAhAtmyam of the Lord to the sages Saunaka munis as per their request on the shores of the holy river ganga ( a place callednaimikAraNyam-- several anecdotes were mentioned in the purANAs about the sthala mahima of the place).

Appropriately, the place of narration ofvEmkaTESa mAhAtmyam by the great sage sUta also adds dignity, sanctity and splendor due to the sthala mahima. The place, time and the narrator are significant factors to implant, nurture and enhance the devotion in the minds of the audience.

In the prabamdham, the devotional story of dEvaSarma was narrated. The devotee dEvaSarma was asked by his guru vAyu dEva to go to vEmkaTAcalam (Trumala of Tirupathi) in order to experience the mahima of SrInivAsa. One who directs the student in the right path for achieving the mukti, is called the real guru. Accordingly, dEvaSarma went to vEmkaTAcalam and experiences  the bliss of seeing the kaliyuga pratyaksha daivam, the Lord SrInivAsa. The prabamdham exposes the devotion of dEvaSarma.

What I know is very very little. What I do not know is infinitely large. But nothing happens without the prEraNa (i.e., prompt) of the Lord. However, I am making a humble attempt (constrained by my limited knowledge) to express the mahima of the Lord as experienced by me while reading this prabamdham which was translated in to Telugu (a TTD publication) by SrI rAmamUrti Sarma.

Please do not judge who is discussing the subject, the vEmkaTESa mAhAtmyam. If the BAvArtham of the SlOkAs is exposed well in the lyrics, the credit goes to the Lord who blessed me. On the other hand, if there are blunders in exposing the BAvArtham of some SlOkAs, I am fully responsible for the blame due to my half-baked knowledge of the subject under consideration. The BAvArtham of these SlOkAs is to be considered as a very modest venture as I am insignificant (anAmaka) in attempting to expose the Glory of the Lord (sarvaj~na) while struggling daily with mundane life.
